Jackass Ridge Premium Angus Beef was organically developed after friends and neighbors inquired about purchasing fresh, home-raised beef.
Jackass Ridge Beef is supply limited with a wait list. The beef is locally processed at Kiowa Chieftain Meats, a USDA inspected, custom harvesting facility. A gate-to-plate commitment to genetic improvement results in magnificent, highly marbled Prime grade beef. The cattle are raised alongside their mothers until weaning, then spend the next few months grazing in the native pastures. Once the cattle reach an optimum weight, they are moved to the feedyard for finishing on a grain-based diet, promoting maximum marbling expression necessary to qualify for the Prime grade.
Protein from beef contains all nine essential amino acids for the growth and maintenance of our bodies. A gate-to-plate philosophy toward production starts before birth and requires a commitment to herd health, animal welfare and proper nutrition.
The available science and technology today enable Lazy KT Ranch to make breeding decisions that genetically equip each calf with the potential to perform through all production phases, regardless of endpoint, including Prime beef.
We love to hear from beef consumers and invite any inquiry topics, from ranching and cattle, to producing high quality Prime beef.

Why the Jackass Ridge Beef Name?
During Dr. Katie Blunk’s career as a USDA-APHIS veterinarian in Nevada, she was a cofounder of the “Wild Ass Women”, a group that assists the Bureau of Land Management with the adoption process of wild burros. Upon retirement and a move back to the ranch, Katie decided to bring some wild west souvenirs with her to Oklahoma—five formerly wild burros.
In Oklahoma, the desert-native burros with wild instincts were difficult to contain. Extremely steep, rocky, rugged Oklahoma red dirt ridges couldn’t even contain the ridge-jumping burros. Katie and husband, Michael Horntvedt, spent that first summer tracking and finally gathering the wild burros. Today, the burros can be found grazing alongside Lazy KT Ranch’s Angus cows, enjoying the native pastures.
It was only fitting KT Ranch’s direct-to-consumer retail beef business carry the unique name of Jackass Ridge Beef.
